Weddings aren't the only things I love to photograph.....I also LOVE babies! I can't even express how much of a blessing it is to witness a couple go from being engaged, to married, to mom & dad. When I get that phone call from my past couples, "guess what Tonya, we're expecting!", you better cover your ears because I've been known to get a little loud from excitement :)

You may remember me sharing Justin and Ludmila's love story a few months ago. I shot their wedding at Justin's family home in Salisbury over 2 years ago, and also spent the day with them this past fall at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville for Ludmila's maternity session. I want everyone to meet the adorable, Miss Charlotte Marques Troutman :) Here are just a couple of my favorites for now....

It seems like just yesterday, I was flipping through bridal magazines, wishing I could someday have my own photography business. If someone had told me back then that by the end of 2011, I would have almost 150 weddings under my belt, I'm not sure I would've believed them.

I would like to take a moment to say Thank You to all the wonderful Brides and Grooms of 2011. Thank you for trusting us to photograph your wedding day, for allowing us to be a part of those special moments, and for all the kind words we've received from all of you. It truly is a blessing from above, to wake up each day, and have a job that puts so many smiles on so many faces :)

Fall Favorites of 2011 - Salisbury, NC Portrait Photographer

It just seems like yesterday I was talking about the cool, crisp fall air. Now my calendar says Christmas will be here in just 3 days. So crazy. Fall was a little bit of a blur because how busy we were. It was great though! We met and shot lots of awesome families, engaged couples, a senior session, and lots of adorable babies and children (Lots of awesome Weddings too - will post those after the Holidays). I also spent some time hanging out with several of my high school friends and shooting their beautiful families as well!

So here are several of my favorites from this past fall, and as always, feel free to leave some comment love, it’s always appreciated! Oh, and if you're wondering what the criteria are for my "favorite images", anything that makes me smile. I hope they put a smile on your face too :)

The Gray Wedding - Charlotte, NC Wedding Photographer

I met with Stephanie and her mother, Lyn, what seems like forever ago. I knew from the very beginning that we were going to work very well together. I shot Kevin & Steph's engagement session at the lovely Catawba College, where they both graduated from, and then I shot Steph's bridals all around Salisbury. We even had a few guys on motorcycles checkin' her out ;) (I'll let her tell that entire story)....

Then came September 10, 2011, (9-10-11, how cool is that) their wedding day at the beautiful Deerpond Plantation in Charlotte. This is one of most beautiful wedding venues I've seen in a while. The owners were so nice and helpful, the house was gorgeous, inside and out, the weather was perfect, DJ's Brian and Justin with Audio To Go kept the dance floor busy all night. When the sun went down, one word described it all....magical.

Justin & Ludmila are Expecting! - Asheville, NC Maternity Session

If you follow my blog, you may remember seeing this sweet couple before. Justin and Ludmila tied the knot two years ago. It was a sweet, and intimate ceremony, and the love between these two was just beautiful. And this was even before I knew their entire story....

It all started with a basketball team....the Charlotte Hornets. Ludmila was sitting at her home in Brazil, on Facebook, and she typed in "Charlotte Hornets", and Justin's Facebook profile appeared. She decided to simply message him and say hello....fast forward 3 months later. Justin logs into Facebook to delete his profile, and reads the message Ludmila sent him 3 months prior. They start chatting, and they never stopped. She moved to Colorado to work at a Resort, where they taught her to speak proper English and the ways of the US. Justin came there to visit her for the first time in person, planning to stay for just a few weeks. He ended up staying there with her for 5 months!

On Friday, November 27th, 2009, Justin & Ludmila had a sweet and emotional ceremony outdoors, at Justin's family home....and the love between the two were very touching. I think this was the first time I stood behind my camera with tears in my eyes as they read their vows to each other. After the wedding, they moved to Asheville, NC to start their married life together. We stayed in touch through Facebook, and a few months ago, I heard the great news from one of their family members.....Ludmila is expecting!!!

Not only did Ludmila want me to come to Asheville, to the Biltmore Estate to photograph their maternity session, but they also have invited me to photograph the live birth of their little girl's arrival this December....baby Charlotte. The most perfect name in the world.....because it all started with three little words Ludmila typed in her search box on Facebook....."The Charlotte Hornets".

Justin & Ludmila - Your two year wedding anniversary is fast approaching, and I just want to say how honored I am to have met you both, to have been a part of your wedding day, and now, to witness the love you two already have for your unborn child....Miss Charlotte Troutman. Wedding Assistant Needed! Is that you??

First let me say, Happy Halloween!! I love this time of year :)

With the 2011 wedding season coming to a close soon (we have 2 more weddings for this year)....this is my time to focus on next year. My husband, Jason, is my wedding assistant the majority of the time, but he cannot always be there. I have a few others that help when they can (including my daughter, and our great friend, Ty :), but I am looking for someone who can assist me full time when Jason isn't available, that I can count on, on most Saturdays and some Fridays and Sundays as well. This is a paid position once you have shot a few weddings with me, and I see if it's going to work out. (Pay will be hourly, and we will discuss that more in detail when we have our initial meeting).

I have tried this several times before, and I get a lot of emails/messages/calls from people who tell me they like photography and always wanted to get into it, has a point & shoot but doesn't know how to use it, loves our work and would like to see what it's like to shoot a wedding....etc. That is not what I am looking for.

I will be specific, and if this sounds like you, or someone you know, please email me and we will make an appt. to meet and discuss it! Right now, I have 15 weddings booked for 2012, so it's gonna be a busy year and I need some help! :)

Requirements:

In the Rowan Co. area, or within 20-30 mins. away.
Own Transportation, and okay with traveling an average of 1 hour away on most weekends
Available for most Saturdays, and possibly a few Fridays or Sundays as well
Knowledge of basic photography (white balance, ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, can shoot manual if needed, and knows how to change a lens)
Very eager to learn, shoot and to be a part of weddings (They are SO much fun!)
A people person with an upbeat personality (once trained, you will be shooting the groomsmen getting ready, group shots, assisting me during the ceremony, formals and reception)
Creative, thinking outside the box! I want someone who can get those important shots I need them to get, but who can also see things from a different perspective, being artistic is great!
Someone willing to learn!

Things you will not be doing:

Shooting alone at weddings (groomsmen, family, group shots, etc. - we will shoot a few together until you are ready to fully be left alone, typically 1-3 weddings)
Learn the business side of things, or how to start your own business
Edit or learn post processing

*You do NOT have to have your own camera. If you have a DSLR of your own, that is great, but you will be using our equipment unless you own similar Nikon equipment as ours. If you have never shot a wedding, that is okay, I can train you. I just need someone who is eager to learn, can devote time to this, and is serious. If you know basic photography, but aren't quite sure how to shoot manual, that is okay, I can teach you some things. I just don't have time to teach someone everything.*

I know I say this a lot, but I LOVE this family! This was their 3rd session with me, and I have been so Blessed! From Beth's maternity session, to their first Christmas with baby Sawyer, now to Sawyer turning one....I am thankful beyond words to have met them and to be able to capture such special moments for them to remember forever. Their session was at a small park in Hickory, NC, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Beth's husband, Rodney, invited his parents along for a few, and this entire family were so much fun to work with. With Halloween around the corner, and Sawyer's 1st Birthday here, we couldn't end the session without a monkey suit and some yummy birthday cake! Here are a few of my favorites.....enjoy!

Salisbury, NC Family Photographer - Meet the Bray Family!

The Bray Family hired us in August to shoot their family session downtown Salisbury. They are new to the area, recently moving from Richmond, VA. Erin, her husband Cassidy and their adorable little one, Baby H, met us at the Salisbury Depot where we started our session. Thanks to Ty Rusher for assisting in their session.

Hello September!! Just a little personal note....

Oh wow, seems so odd to say it's September already. As much as I LOVE summer-time, I'm totally over the 95 degree days. So bring on the cooler weather, colorful leaves and pumpkin spice lattes :)

Summer came and went and I was just about too busy to notice. We did get a chance to take a few weeks off to make it to our favorite place in the world, the beach, but other than that, it's been work, work, work. I have been so Blessed to wake up each day to my awesome, supportive family, but also to a job that I absolutely love. Someone asked me recently "don't you ever get tired of Weddings, the same old thing over and over?" NO WAY! I said. They are definitely NOT all the same, and I get so excited to be a part of each and every one. Even after my scheduled time is over, you'll often find me sneaking around taking shots of people that thought I left (those are the best), or the flower girls basket left on the ground, or the family hugging each other long after the bride and groom have driven away. It's not just a job to me, it's part of who I am, something inside I cannot turn on and off. I've watched this business grow from a little idea my husband, Jason and I had years ago, to what it is today.....

So that's when I came to my next conclusion. Family time is hard for everyone to find enough of these days. I am finding that working from home makes it even harder. I have decided that Sundays will be my "official day off", as I have never had a real day off in the past. My day's off were decided on based on what my schedule had going on. All of my appointments that I have now for Sundays will not change, but this is for future appointments. I may take the occasional Sunday Wedding, completely depending on what my family life has going on. I encourage everyone reading this to look at how fast time flies, and even though we can't stop it or slow it down, we can make those moments special to the ones we love the most. I know my two kids were way more excited when I told them this than I expected them to be. Wow....what took me so long??

I will end this little note by saying thank you. To those of you who believed in me, who supported me, who spent many hours listening to my rants about weddings and all the details I bored you with, lol. Seriously though, I know I wouldn't be where I am without many of you there to cheer me on. You know who you are.....love you all <3

Just wanted to take a minute to wish all of my blog readers a Happy 4th of July! We will be out of town for a long weekend with family, returning next Tuesday, July 5th. I will not have any internet or cell phone signal where we are going, so I will return all calls & emails as soon as I return home.

Hope everyone has a safe, and Happy 4th, and remember, it's not about the fireworks, or the food, it's about giving thanks for our Freedom! :)

April showers bring May flowers.....and May Weddings! I love Weddings, obviously, but weddings in the spring, outside, by the lake, with blue skies? Um, YES! Michael & Brianne had a beautiful, sweet, intimate ceremony right by Lake Norman, with a super fun reception following at the Embassy Suites. The tears were flowing, the flowers were gorgeous, the dancing was non-stop, and it was just a wonderful day for a wedding. Congrats Michael & Brianne! Southport, NC - Wedding Photographer

One of my New Year's resolutions was to blog more often....well, so far I'm not doing so great. With weddings every single weekend, shoots weekly, and being under the weather the past few weeks, it's been just a tad insane around our house. Oh, and my son had his tonsil's out this week! (thanks for the well wishes from my FB friends)

So....two weeks ago from today....my husband and I were in our favorite place in the whole world. Southport, NC. It's heaven there, we've been a million times, okay, not quite, but each time I learn something new, explore something more beautiful, and realize that is where my heart is. Sigh. Maybe one day. Until then, I can continue to dream, and visit as often as possible. However, we weren't there for leisure this time, we were there to shoot a wedding! And what a fine wedding it was! ( I will blog about it once all the editing is done) We did manage however to take a little harbor sunset cruise on the Solomon T (a 1938 Original NC work boat that was restored beautifully) one evening while in Southport. The Captain and his wife shared the history of the area with us, told us about the birds that were flying above, marine life, and even spoke of pirates (my favorite), as we sailed into the sunset....

If you happen to visit Southport, and have a couple of hours to spare, and just wanna relax and learn a little about the area, I highly suggest you give them a call. They are super nice, very affordable for private tours, and very knowledgeable of the area. http://solomontsouthport.com/

I've never been a winter kinda girl, so I couldn't be more happy to hear the birds chirpin' and the see flowers blooming everywhere! This time of year just puts a smile on my face :)
Which brings me to my next topic....

Spring Photos! If you are in need of outdoor engagement pictures or maybe a family session, Spring is the PERFECT time for it. We can kick off our shoes, feel the grass between our toes, and shoot away! I still have lots of weekday appts. left (no weekends until July), but even those are getting filled quickly. Meet Nick & Kelly | Mooresville NC Wedding Photographer

I met Nick and Kelly a few months back for a consult, and I knew within minutes of meeting them that they were a very sweet, and unique couple. Their wedding was on a cool day in March, at a chapel in Mooresville, with the forecast calling for a good chance of rain....but we were crossing our fingers it would stay dry! We made it all the way through the ceremony and formals, and as we were ending the outdoor formals with the B&G, it started to drizzle...just in time! The reception was gorgeous, with vintage decorations, the cutest cake topper ever and tunes of Adele....just perfect. And to think they planned it all in under a month....hope you enjoy a few of my favorite images from their day....Congrats Nick & Kelly!

Vintage Motor Club | Concord NC Event Photographer

A few weeks ago we were asked by the City of Kannapolis to shoot a Safety Banquet at the Vintage Motor Club in Concord. We had never been there before, but after Googling it and seeing what an awesome & different venue this was, we couldn't wait to go! Just a little update.....

So if you are following me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/jtphotographync), then you know I've been super excited about wedding season starting. January & February are my slower months, and it gives me much needed time with my family, and I have truly enjoyed having some time off. BUT!! I've also truly missed shooting, and am getting ready as I'm typing (yes, I'm a multi-tasker) for my the first wedding rehearsal of this year. Woohooo!!

My calendar is getting filled SO fast for this year! I have 19 weddings already booked for 2011, and one for 2012 already. I have only one date left for June, and several for Aug.-Sept. (Oct. filled up), and some also left for Nov.-Dec. Please keep in mind that if you are considering booking us for your wedding, a $100 Deposit and signed contract will hold your date. I still have several weekday evenings available for other photo sessions, and very limited weekend dates....

The best way to contact me is through my email, tonya@jtphoto-online.com (the dash is part of my email, without it, I won't receive it). Facebook is notorious for not alerting me that I have a new message, so if you've messaged me there, and haven't heard from me, send me an email!

Laura hired me last year to shoot her engagements and bridals, and this past January I shot her wedding.
(will be posting her wedding pics soon!) Right after her wedding, she hired me again to do an indoor & outdoor photo session. Laura needed headshots for her Pageants coming up soon, and for a CD cover as well. We did two separate shoots on the same day, one indoor studio shoot for headshots, and then an outdoor shoot for the CD. We had such a blast! Laura and her mom, Ruby, were so much fun to work with, as they always are!!

Okay so I'm a tiny bit behind on blogging! I want to share my last wedding of 2009 with everyone.

I had the pleasure of photographing Bruce & Lauren's wedding & reception this past New Year's Eve. They were married at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Salisbury, with the reception following at Stelia Cafe on Main St. It was my very first New Year's Eve wedding, and I had a blast bringing in the New Year with everyone there. I truly enjoyed being a part of their wedding day, and I hope you enjoy viewing some of their pics. My daughter, Taylor, is playing soccer for the first time this year, and so I thought while she was outside practicing this afternoon, I'd do a few test shots. Oh, and Zoe (my cat) & Daisy (my dachshund) made an appearance in these too. Unfortunately, my son Jeffrey was very sick today, and wasn't able to join us this time. Enjoy! Tim & Kelly drove up to Salisbury today for an engagement shoot, so I thought I'd post a few sneak peeks from today's session. Kelly hired me many months ago for their April wedding in Charleston, SC, and then she attended one of our Photography Workshops a few months later. Not only are they the sweetest couple, but Kelly has become a good friend of ours, and I am so excited about shooting their wedding!! Oh, and she's a pretty awesome photographer too, can't wait for her to shoot a wedding with me!! :)

November 2009 Wedding....Meet Justin & Ludmila.

Justin & Ludmila hired me to shoot their small, intimate wedding in Salisbury, at Justin's grandmother's home just weeks prior to their wedding. Ludmila is from Brazil, and they are planning another ceremony with all of her family sometime later, but wanted to include Justin's family in the sharing of their vows, especially his Grandmother who couldn't make it to Brazil. I say this often, but I truly felt honored to be asked to photograph their wedding. Ludmila is the sweetest person, very warm & inviting, and all of their family made us feel so welcome at their home. I left there feeling accomplished in what I set out to do, but most importantly, that I had just met some really great people who obviously loved each other very much! Intern Position Available....

So as many of you may know, I have had an intern working with us for the past several months, Amanda Taylor. She has currently moved to California to further pursue her photography dreams. She is super talented and although we are going to miss her dearly, excited to see what California has in store for her! On that note, we are currently looking for someone to help assist us in the many, many weddings & other sessions we have booked for this coming up year. Wedding season starts in April for us, with 18 weddings booked so far from April to October. Wow! Where has time gone? I'm embarrassed to say it has been months since I've last updated my blog. With all the summer & fall weddings of '09, catching up on editing, and then with the Holidays, there's just been no time! Hello! It's been over a week since I've posted anything, we just got back from our vacation at Carolina Beach. We had a blast ~ and it just went by waaaaay too fast! Isn't that the way it goes? We visited Ft. Fisher, Southport, Wilmington, but we mostly enjoyed grilling & hanging out on our deck at our oceanfront beach house. Here are a few pics of our week, and I'll post a few more soon!

Jill & Jeremiah Wedding

Jill & Jeremiah were married at Green River Plantation in Rutherfordton, NC at the beginning of May. This was especially exciting for me because I was born and raised in Rutherfordton, and since moving from there in 2001, this was the first time I had shot a wedding there! Green River is such a beautiful place, and even though it was raining when we got there, the skies cleared just before the wedding. A few raindrops started to fall during the ceremony, but no one seemed to notice, the wedding was so sweet, with handwritten vows, you could definitely feel the happiness and love that day! I caught myself getting a little teary eyed during a few special moments. Here are a few of my favorite shots from their wedding. Thank you Jill & Jeremiah for hiring us to shoot your wedding ~ you and all your family and friends were such a pleasure to work with! Congratulations to the both of you!
